About This SiteWhen I first told my friend that I was going to make a blog, she laughed at me. Not just a small, innocent giggle. Oh no. This was a deep throated, chair rattling, seat of your soul cackle. (ok, maybe that is a liiiiitle bit exagerated). But that being said, you are probably wondering the same thing that she was. What exactly do I have to say to the world that is so enlightening or interesting that it warrants making a website?
Possibly nothing. But that being said, I do have a few reasons for making this site, and here they are. 1. I have been meaning to create a blog for a whileMaking my own website/blog was something I have been wanting to do ever since I stumbled upon The Pioneer Woman's blog and website. I felt like her story was kind of like my own. I mean, she was an educated, boot wearing city slicker when she met a rustic country boy, and left everything she knew behind to surrender herself to a life in the county. People liked what she did, and her blog went from a small, self started thing, to a huge frontier with literally thousands of hits per day, a book deal and appearances on numerous talk and cooking shows. All while raising and home schooling 4 children of her own.
It's not like I really think that one day my site will becoming a huge thing with a cult following, but I thought it was pretty cool and like I wanted to do it too. So here it is. 2. I am embarking on a new phase in my lifeAs this site is being created, so is a little life inside of me. My husband and I are expecting our first child, and the next number of years are sure to be challenging, fulfilling, chaotic, wonderful, tiring and beautiful all at the same time. I will be experiencing many firsts, learning about myself and transforming from an individual into a mother. Interesting things are bound to happen.
3. Everyone else is doing itLet's face it. Blogs are the new black. You can't search the word spoon in google without getting a result that leads you towards someone's blog. (I mean it, I actually tried).
Recently I lunched with a friend, and we got on the topic of her blog. After taking a look, I ached to make my own. So, thank you Vanessa and Korena for inspiring me to begin. 4. I have the time nowAs I previously mentioned, there is a bun in the oven. I know that once said bun is fully cooked and ready to join us, I will not have more than a few stolen moments while the baby is napping to get on here and update, let alone build an entire site. No time like the present!
5. I wanted to preserve my travel blogI was lucky enough in my early 20's to spent a fair amount of time travelling. I visited 12 countries in total, and spent about 2.5 years (on and off) away from home. I fell in love, chased my dreams, discovered many cultures, and grew immensely as a person. I only blogged for a short period of that time, but finding somewhere to preserve and showcase my experiences in the Asian countries was what I aimed to do.
6. I always loved writingAs a tween, I would spend hours on our family computer writing stories. (Usually R.L. Stine inspried horrors). My classmates became the characters, and elaborate legends were created to determine which of my friends were which heroine. Once I hit high school, I enrolled in the journalism class and enjoyed writing articles for both the school newspaper, and our local paper in Port Alberni. I used to be somewhat good at writing (for a 16 year old), but unfortunately, when skills are not continually honed and practiced, they tend to either lay stagnant or decline. I am not claiming to be a gifted writer, but it is something I enjoy, so it is something I want to continue.
